Why is a Positive Message to Kids Deemed Evil?

September 9th 2009 14:56
The newest controversy to sting the Obama administration is not still our ailing health care system, but instead a speech. Not a speech inciting violence or an uprising against the stupidity of the GOP party. But instead a speech geared towards American's youth to stay in school and better themselves and their futures. Now, as a parent, I am not offended by this. I mean my kid is not school aged as of yet, but I'm already starting to explain on a daily basis the importance of an education. Why would parents of any aged child, be offended by a positive speech urging children to not drop out?

If you continue to listen to the hatred that has become prevalent in our daily existence in this country for the past 6 months, you would think our President were turning into the despised dictator that he is constantly compared to concerning congress's health care reform. You would think that he was instituting propaganda tactics to our children to get them to conform to the party's ideals and principles in goose stepping down their city's streets to town hall meetings to salute Big Brother! You would ultimately think that this was the true beginning of the end of free thinking, free will, and freedom period from the government and their control!
But alas, no, it was none of this. It was simply a speech concerning the true American spirit of this country to utilize the right to an education. It was simply a speech explaining the power of a high school diploma, college degree, and even technical and higher learning degrees of distinction.
I mean, God forbid, how dare the President of the United States want to positively influence the future generations of this country to want to succeed and do better than possibly their parents and others before them! Geez, I guess the GOP party and every other ignorant bigot in this country would rather see kids continued to be dumbed down with ridiculous and violent video games, soaring drop out rates, and increased drug use. I guess the GOP party likes this country continuing to produce idiots such as a Sarah Palin, who can't finish anything or push for anything better than producing offspring and hunting! God save us all if we fall back into the hands of anyone who's against positive reinforcement for children!

Nicolette, this is really a Republican/Conservative plot to further capitalism and keep fast food prices low; if they can prevent children from hearing the President's speech, the children might continue dropping out of school and continue making careers out of working for McDonald's. Ha! You have to laugh at these morons.

Um.

Wow.

This is why I like Canada. This is why I'm STAYING HERE.

Some people are just ridiculous. I mean, you've got ridiculous like Stephen Colbert, which is called entertainment for TV (I'm pretty sure he doesn't really believe half the stuff he says) and then you've got these people who really mean/believe it. They make me squirm.

Dianna, I lived in Canada, in Belleville, Ontario for a year and a half, and they had some pretty rediculous people there too. There are crazy people everywhere; you can't escape them. So, the only thing you can do is laugh at them and pretend that they mean to be funny.

You're right, Mike, sometimes you have to just laugh at the stupidity that's going on with the ridiculous Republicans, but there comes a point where you have to ask when's enough enough?? They are beyond desperate and silly because now they should be just downright offensive to anyone that's educated. But what's scary to me is the hoards of people who follow, believe, and continue this madness without pause.

My memory is fuzzy but wasn't there something about the Democreats holding Congressional hearings regarding the propiety of George H. W. Bush's address to students back in 1991? I think the then President Bush's topics were stay in school and stay away from drugs. I guess crazy is something to do when and where and who when viewed by the opposition party at the time and who the lemmings of the day are following. Pots calling kettles black? I am a moderate conservative. There was nothing with Mr. Obama's speech and the lesson plan, which was causing most of the issue, was withdrawn. Have a good day all ... let's go find something important to deal with, like how to avoid ending a sentence with a preposition.

Wow, Rick, maybe you should join the Department of Education to insure that in the future, Presidential addresses to children aren't deemed negative no matter what party is represented during the term the speech is given. Wishful thinking, but it doesn't matter who's in office and or what party they represent. It's still a silly notion, on either side, to be afraid or angered by the President directing a positive message towards school children concerning staying in school and staying away from drug abuse.
Thanks for pointing out ending a sentence with a preposition, but next time I suggest you use spell check for the word Democrats along with a few other grammatical errors in your comment too. And thanks so much for your input! I wish you a great day and hope you're focusing your energy towards something more important such as health care reform. I know I'm doing my best to be informed and as vocal in my community as possible and hope you are too!

Yeah ... let me in ... I'll show them. One of these days I will learn to write these things in Word then cut and paste and avoid the spelling errors. This blogging stuff is still new to me. But then, I left out a word also. I feel there was nothing "wrong" with Mr. Obama's speech. Sorry about the omission of the word "wrong". Now, where can I sign up with the Department of Education? Maybe they will be reasonable and do it my way. Thanks for the corrections Nicolette. Regarding health care reform, it seems that a lot of misinformation is flying from both camps. I too am trying to sift through the information.

Hey Rick, tell me about it, I'm tempted to join the DOE too because it seems like they could use some new blood in there to keep politics and education from mixing messages for both parents and kids alike! But I agree on the health care reform, it's almost as if neither the Democrats or Republicans want the truth to be available for us to make informed decisions about what kind of reform is best and needed at this point in time. Maybe its time for a strong Independent party to come to the forefront and bring some new cards to the table because the two party deal isn't working out for the best anymore. Got any ideas??

No ideas but I am looking hard. I would really like to have a political home that is just a bit to the right of middle. Now would be a great time for someone to step in and rearrange the Republican party. I have looked into the Tea Party movement but there is no significant leadership in the party and the folks I have talked to so far seem a bit farther to the right than my comfort level will allow. I am trying to be open minded, though many would say that is not possible for a conservative. I think I like the govenor of Minnesota whose name I cannot spell or say correctly. I think Colin Powell would be a very good leader of a moderate conservative movement. I do know I am completely disgusted with Congress and it's lack of follow through on virtually anything. I believe in government oversight and regulation, but not government ownership ... but government has to do its job and I am not sure the bureaucracies Congress creates act in a responsible manner. Seems to me that Washington is all about gaining power and not at all about responsibly using that power. Sorta like watching kids doing the trick or treat thing at Halloween. All about quantity, nothing about quality. Now I am preaching and not really solving anything so time to quit for a while. About health care reform, I found the following article which does make some sense to me:

Have a good day.
