I like everything about myself that other people don't like ...

I forgive myself for all of my mistakes ...

I accept myself for who I am ...

I don't try to change myself forcefully (I know I'll change eventually [I'm fully aware of my defects, shortcomings and imperfections, but I'm also fully aware that changes that drastic are not an overnight process ...

I concentrate on my good points and remind myself I have a few, rather than focus on my defects and criticise them relentlessly ...

I take a lot of joy from the talents and abilities I was given and don't get jealous or envious of them, and try to cut myself down ... I like the fact that I return thanks for them to the source, and don't appropriate them to myself or call myself self-made ...

I love the fact that love means more to me than anything else in the world ... and that things like kindness and compassion and thoughtfulness, and treating others with meekness, mean something to me ... (even if I do go off the rails every now and again ... [but I call that retaliation, not instigation ...

I love the fact that I was taught to count my blessings ... I've found it the greatest counter to all of the criticism I do receive ... (If we spent more time thinking about how fortunate we were to have eyes and hands and a mouth, we might employ them more constructively?

I love the fact that I providentially spent a lot of time in religious life ... I learnt more during those days than I've ever learnt out in the world ... and those things just stick in a person's memory ...

I just love all the things about myself that most other people hate ... I guess ...

I guess I just love myself for who I am and accept myself as a human being ... and forgive myself for all of my shortcomings ...

If I didn't take that approach? I'd kill myself in the way that those who do hate me would do given the opportunity ... It's quite difficult having an old-fashioned Catholic mentality in the modern world ... The theology and simplicity behind it is too simple for modern minds to grasp ... They prefer intellectual discourses to wisdom ... Give me the simplicity of the type of wisdom that only comes from above any day ... It works for me ...

I even like the fact that I read my copy of the New Testament while I'm sitting on the toilet each morning for my regular bowel movement ... and don't cringe and think God is going to punish me ... I get the impression He quite likes the fact that I like His words ...

I'd better go now ...

Dear David.......
It has recently become my ambition in life to like myself as much as you like yourself...this is sincere...not a rant or a rave....Someday's I like the things that noone else likes and somedays I like the things that others do like..but I am sure you have said this..at the end of the day....if you dont love yourself noone else will....
I love the way you love...it is so special...in some posts you say you dont have anything much...but you know you have so much more than so many others..the knowledge and the ability to apply it when it comes to love..and for me that is a rarely found trait.....
On top of those thoughts I have to accept that I came into this world alone and I will leave it alone and go somewhere else and I used to believe one thing about that and now I am not so sure....and so I am left alone to contemplate this.X

Dear Miss Nomer ...

I try to love and accept people ...

It's not my inability to do that which is the problem ...

It's their inability to accept love ...

So many modern people are obsessed (make that possessed) with the notion they have to prove to other people that they know everything about life ... and that when people come around to their 'enlightened' way of thinking ... all will be well ...

And yet these same people spend their entire lives trying to change others around to their way of thinking ? ..

What a bloody futile exercise ...

One of my favourite quotes is one of St Francis of Assisi's:

The only person we should preach to is ourselves.

He used to call his body 'Brother Ass' and treat it accordingly ... He'd give himself a good telling off every day ... (not others) ...

One day, he went out into the snow and made not just a snowman ... he made a snow family ... then he just stood there looking at his snow family ... and said to himself ... Now just be grateful you're single and can devote your time to Divine thoughts ...

He's always been one of my favourite saints because his only desire was to live in poverty ... And I so wish people weren't so anti-Catholic nowadays ... there's some beautiful stories in the lives of the Catholic Saints ... not just for Catholics ... but for everyone ... I mean the early Franciscans were so simple and childlike ... It's not about converting people to Catholicism ... it's about converting them to love and a love of simplicity and childlikeness ...

Anyway, I'm raving and ranting now ... *

Dear David...your religious spiels are one of the only times I get a traditional religious education. I was once a very devout little Anglican..yep I had a bible and attended church as regularly as my mum and dad would take me.. but due to the fact that it was impossible for my mum to get me to confirmation classes after school I was never confirmed and from that day onward for over a year at primary school I had to spend the entire religious instruction lesson standing outside the class room because "I had not been confirmed so I was going to hell and if I sat in the class
I would contaminate all the good children". Kind of put me off... bit sad really anyhow I enjoy the little knowledge I do pick up from here and there...so thanksX

Hi Mis Nomer,

Great to see you again.

I think David covered every aspect I would have said and some; especially

I concentrate on my good points and remind myself I have a few, rather than focus on my defects and criticise them relentlessly ...

I would only add, that I love my growing ability to obey myself when I know I must do things... this wasn't always the case and caused so much of my misery. As I get older I'm learning to listen more to what I'm telling myself, if I truly want to be myself ... like right now I'm saying, '...get off your ass and go for your walk, you've been sitting still for too long.' ... gee, and after I had scheduled today to blog all day to make up for my absense last week.. but I guess I know best, right? *chuckle* I certainly know better than to argue!

I love myself because i know how to worship the Goddess and my divinity within and because I allow myself to dance, often... and buy myself little treats, when I have been working particularly hard to increase the family fortunes for something special.

Ooh an because both me, myself and I, all agree that sometimes it is better to be happy, than to be right. *chuckle* ...we've learnt that sometimes it's better to detatch and to walk away, which brings me great peace.

But I love myself most when I do things becuase I want to, without expectation of a reward for doing a good thing. That makes me the happiest of all.

I could go on, but I have to go and exercise now ... and then meditate for an hour.

I think Backgammon was my starting point a few years ago too... chug on Mis Nomer, chug on... there's a bend coming and great things .. around it, await...

Lilla ...

My faith in God is what I like about myself.

When I look at *certain* atheists I think 'well they have some idea, but I know more'

When I look at *certain* Christians I think 'FOR FUCKS SAKE HE"S JUST FUCKING TAKING PEOPLES MONEY!'

I look at other (certain) Christians who are questioning their faith due to some sort of fucked up inane law that God apparently spoke to some git and think to myself 'Yeah I'd like to see someone make that claim in Islam, not allowed at all'.

Then again, there are *certain* dickheads who call themselves Muslim, I guess what I like about myself also happens to be the fact I'm not anything like them. Believe you me, it's easier to convert to Islam before meeting certain muslims, because they don't leaveyou with the best of impressions.

What I like is basically what I am, or how I choose to live.

vegetarian? aww, well I admire that.

I personally only eat meat from animals that have not suffered, though I wouldn't be able to stop myself from eating meat totally lest I die.

I dunno really, tell you the truth I ask myself that sometimes.

Basically the rule (Islamically) is if the meat of an Animal is halal it means the animal did not live in suffering and was not killed painfully, so electrocutions, neck breaking and all that isn't allowable when killing animals, specifically farm animals like cows or chickens. So if a restaurant or butcher says the meant is halal I kind of take that on faith and figure it's ok.

I also don't eat pork for the same reason I don't eat cats or dogs, I won't hold it against you but I see these animals as having a higher intelligence to the degree they are aware of their own existence significantly enough for them to fear death in a far more human manner, hence killing them is wrong in my opinion.
