The Witching Hour By Ann rice

The witching hour is the first in a three part series about the lives of the Mayfair witches. It is not you average witch in her house on the hill eating little children story. It is the story of ordinary people who happen to be witches. In fact it is more about the illustrious history of the Mayfair's then it is about spells and incense. Ann Rice has the amazing ability to bring subtly to the most in your face topics. Sometimes it is hard to take a story of witch craft in a normal setting but she plays it exactly right.
The novel is fast moving and compelling and as soon as your are finished you are on your way to the book store to buy the next volume. I have always found that to be the case with Ann rice but even more so in this case because there is an element of finding out what happens next.
One thing I will say is that unfortunately The witching Hour is the best of the three which makes it a little less exciting embarking on the series as a whole but they are all great novels and well worth reading. In fact if Ann Rice wrote a shopping list I would probably read it. She is an excellent author with a writing style that draws you in without you even noticing it and The Witching Hour is a triumph of this.
