TAKING THE CONNOTATIONS OUT OF MY CONVERSATIONS
February 16th 2007 08:16
Is it at all conceivable to carry out a conversation with someone free from connotations?
Can I utter a single sentence that honestly expresses my thoughts and opinions without there existing an underlying sub-text?
Can I take at face value the words being spoken to me in turn, or do I constantly have to "read between the lines" to ascertain what the other person is really trying to say?
I think this is what I meant to say in my post about meaning to say what I mean, but not saying it, but I didnt really know what I meant so it was hard to express it.
Why is it so hard to say what I mean or what I really want to say, and is the person I am talking to strugging with the same concept, a kind of conversational constipation?
If I mis-read the underlying intent in a statement, twist it in my mind, give it my own slant, and formulate a response accordingly, does this constitute pre-conception, am I in fact pharaphrasing my own predetermined particular belief system, or am I articulating assent to ascertain another's agenda?
Would the world be a different place if everything that was said was meant and taken, literally and directly, no bullshit, no subterfuge, no appeasing accolades, just plain old fashioned to god, straight to the point truth, as we know it.

I know, are we born like this or is it conditioning, defense mechanism, learned responses?
