PRECIOUS POSSESSIONS

What is your favourite possession? The one tangible thing that you own that gives you the most pleasure, that you are most attached to? I’m not asking about relationships or personal attributes, but sentimental or otherwise, trinkets, talismans, ornaments, items of clothing, something you can touch…..
My most precious belonging is a Buddha statue, about 30cm tall and very solid, being a fat bellied smiling Chinese Buddha, carved out of stone. Dad bought him for me when I was a teenager, and he would be one of the only things in my life I have had for that length of time, he has certainly out lasted a few relationships and friendships. I love my Buddha, I look at him and I cant help but break out a smile….guaranteed, every time.
I have always been a bit of a Gypsy, until recently, so Buddha spent about 15 years living with my Mum and Dad until I got more or less, kind of settled.
Then a couple of years back, I was off again, travelling and working overseas for 18 months then spent another 12 months living out of a suitcase with most of my worldly chattels in storage, but not my Buddha. I couldn’t bare the thought of Buddha being in a box in a storage unit, I just couldn’t do it. So….Buddha had a holiday, he had many admirers, and spent time spreading happiness and light on the balcony of a beachfront pad in Bondi, a few months in a sun room in Lindfield, and for a few more months he had pride of place in the foyer of a Film Production Company at Fox Studios before he took up residence in my new apartment, where he holds court in the living room.
Living as I did with only a few changes of clothes, some toiletries, a little jewellery and some cd’s and books and my computer, (which is my second most precious possession), for so long, I came to place more importance on relationships, feelings, emotions and physical states of being rather than material goods………
I didn’t miss my Buddha, like I missed my friends and family, but I was just as glad to see him when I returned to Australia…….

A pair of wooden Rosary Beads ... I won't bore you with the reasons as to why ... they're all Catholic reasons to do with where they've been and who / what they've touched.

My blanky: a hand-sewn quilt handed down to me by a very special woman. I've had it for about ten years, now, and it goes everywhere with me.
An apron: hand sewn by a great-grandmother whom I'd never met. She died before I was born, but my grandmother passed it down to me.
My grandparents' original wedding ring. It's a small diamond (very), but the ring is rich in love and history. When my grandfather passed away and I traveled to his funeral, my grandmother gave it to me. I don't wear it, but keep it in a trinket box for safe keeping.
There are more precious items in my collection, of course, but those are my top three. I'm deeply moved by heirloom pieces - and each of these will be passed down to my daughter in time.
