LESSON 1 - Life's a Reality
August 16th 2006 18:41
So often we get carried away with romance and fantasy and imagination that we forget that life is a reality and that there are logical explanations and that all humans are the same in some way or another.
I'm particulary referring to such thoughts as, "doing good deeds for kharma", or seeing someone act in a certain way and thinking, "they are really selfless and admirable"... It's quite fascinating once you find out real motives and logical explanations for certain actions.
I guess politicians and people in positions of authority would be the easiest to make examples of. And one that comes to mind would be the religious zealous shown by certain world leaders. Let's look at good old bush. Recently he vetoed (excuse my spelling if that is wrong) funds for stemcell research under the guise that it was unethical or morally incorrect. Now do you think that was the real reason? Do you think bush really gives a shit whether unborn fetuses are refrained from being used for scientific research due to conflicts with his morals? Hell no... it's more likely because there's a mid term election coming up and he wants the votes of the xians out there who oppose stem-cell research~ The govt probably ran some research and figured they may be able to "buy" more votes this way... And this kind of logical conclusion can be reached with many actions undertaken by our fellow humans...
I've learnt that the faster you realise this world is not a happy happy la la land~ The more you can use that knowledge to your advantage... That's not to say that I view life pessimistically... I do know that life is full of crap~ but, of course there are joys and happinesses (heh)... The point is that it's valuable to look at life from a realistic viewpoint... Learn to read people's intentions...
Kind of like in a no limits poker game... If you can read your opponents intentions, then you have the advantage... Well I guess it sort of applies to all forms of competition...
I think this is a reason why I so regret being "taught" xianity... I was so consumed by the religion, without studying it's history nor thinking about alternative possibilities other than what has been "recorded" in the bible that I never learnt to think realistically... I always had wishful thoughts - "oh god will make it come true, if it is HIS will"... how much more wishful and illogical can you get!
Anywho... think realistic... learnt to be realistic... It's always good to provide romance and fantasy for your significant other, but I advise you not to live by it everyday... If I had learnt to be realistic during my younger years I'd be in a far different place from here...
Which leads onto my next lesson - learning not to regret...
