Dazed and Confused

August 19th 2009 15:02
All over the news and on websites galore, there are pictures of President Obama plastered with a likeness to either Adolf Hitler or the Joker character from the 'Batman' series. People, white Americans mostly, are taking to town hall meetings and to the web protesting any type of reform to health care that might benefit the lower classes and even help the middle classes, which I'm pretty sure the mass majority of these people represent financially. President Obama's plan is being compared to a form of socialism and even communism. People are showing up to health care information meetings with assault rifles and 9mm pistols in New Hampshire and Arizona because they can according to their right to bare arms, even at what should be a peaceful gathering. What's wrong with these scenarios? Why do these instances offend, disgust, anger, and even push me, and other fellow Americans, to a point of possible violence?

It's because it's truly unbelievable that this is the point we've come to as a country. This is the point we've come to as supposed intelligent, civilized, and compoents of one of the wealthiest countries in the world! Any American, okay, any human, should be outraged with a comparison of our country's leader to the ilk that was unfortunately, Adolf Hitler. This was a creature of some sort who purposely set out a propaganda filled movement to annihilate what he considered to be 'impure' human beings according to his idea of an Aryan race. Never mind that he definitely was not of this 'blond haired, blue eyed, fair skinned' race he preached about, but that he actually was able to dupe a whole country into rounding up fellow human beings into camps for labor, torture, and eventually death. Whatever socialistic ideals he might have had concerning those within his oligarchy of communism, this is not what he is forever endeared to millions for. Don't get me wrong, there probably are plenty of other leaders that have also graced our planet with their tyrranical governments that could more so resemble Hitler, but I have to say, Barrack Obama is not one of them.

Last time I checked, none of us, meaning Americans of any racial background, were being rounded up and loaded by the truckloads to death camps because we were Jewish, Black, Hispanic, Asian, etc... White Americans screaming at the top of their lungs about their rights are being taken away, about their health care options possibly being socialized, or that their civil rights to bare arms are being trampled on because liberals have taken over government aren't living in reality. In fact, I'm not quite sure where they're living honestly. They have the right to harass and intimidate others who want to be heard by their congressmen and their senators and their government in an intelligible manner, they have the right to bare their assault rifles and 9mm pistols and whatever other weapons they deem necessary to brandish, and they have the rights to deface our country's leader with communistic epitaphs and slogans. So, unless I'm living in another state of reality, I don't see where their rights are being taken away or even being harmed.
If these people really want to know what it's like to be without rights, why don't the women in this group of Americans head over to Afghanistan for a day or two or even Iraq and Iran and walk around without their heads and bodies completely covered. Maybe even add in speaking their opinions out on the open streets to men who would rather bash their heads in for assuming they're on an even level with them, through the same signs and outburst they have the right to express here in the USA. How about the men in this group heading to any given third world country that silences protesters of the regime in power with sprays of bullets and brutal beatings and even as far as wiping out their entire families as a lesson not to buck the system. And Americans think health care reform and gun control is taking away their rights? Ask Neda Ahga-Sultan her opinion of what's taking away someone's rights, but I guess we can't ask her because she's now a martyr for Iranian Protestors after her death was filmed and plastered all over the world as she was shot and killed on June 20th at a post election protest. Though I did not know her nor the thousands of others at these protests, I'm pretty sure their opinions on what Americans think is threatening of our rights would be insulting and borderline ridiculous. Her death, along with countless others who are never named in newspapers or make the evening news, shows just how trivial and pathetic comparing our President's reform plan to Hitler's communistic Nazi polices really is. Action is necessary, but wasting time and energy degrading and demeaning change that is needed and overdue is just that, a waste. Instead, we as Americans should channel our energies into forcing our government to adhere to the jobs we voted them to do by discussing the issues, not shouting them down, by reading the bills and asking legitimate questions, not regurgitating what we've heard 3rd 4th or 5th person on the radio or on grass roots websites. Being well informed about the issues is the true weapon to maintaining our democracy and our freedoms, even trivial ones as carrying a weapon or defacing our President.
